Sweet
hopes of
childhood
Drama
Summer goes past gently in a small Polish town, where Stefek, a 10-year- old boy, lives with his mother and sister. On day, when he sits on a bench at the railway station and watches the trains go by, he thinks he recognized his father, who left the family several years before. Thinking that he is able to change the course of things, Stefek tries to make cross the ways of this stranger and his mother. Tricks take up to a false track of a film production perceived as sad. Here, the sun cherishes the poor land- scape and the Polish post-industrial decor and with its soft rays accompanies the little boy and his hope. This feature-length film, the first one by Andrzej Jakimowski to appear in our cinemas, is an optimistic tale on family. The director’s camera succeeds to show childhood’s glance on the world of adults with tenderness. ■
