Childhood goes happy
A Polish film-maker, Andrzej Jakimowski made a very nice film of the naive beauty of childhood, viewed through the eyes of a little boy, all tied up in his older sister’s apron strings.

Summertime. The sun floods with soft light the Polish village, where 10-year-old Stefek lives. His holidays go on calmly, between his tin soldiers, trips with his sister’s boyfriends on his motorbike, neighbor’s pigeons and the nearby train station, where one day he believes to recognize the father, who left the family long time ago. In order to be sure that it is indeed him, Stefek does patiently whatever he can, even if it requires influencing destiny with the power of superstitions, to make the paths of this man and his mom meet again. Tricks is a second film by the Polish film-maker, Andrzej Jakimowski, after Squint your eyes from 2003, already welcomed by the critics and recognized with awards on several festivals. In this film, dedicated to his sister and cast with actor amateurs,

Tomasz Sapryk, Damien Ul and Ewelina Walendziak

Jakimowski tells us a story on a few moments of childhood and a poor country, where young guys quarrel over old cars to pick up girls. He delivers a universal ode about little unimportant things that build up a daily life, seen through the eyes of a little boy. This tale will tug at the heartstrings of those, who believe in acting on the course of things and keeping their fingers crossed.
Tricks by Andrzej Jakimowski. In cinemas tomorrow.
